Sun Radio Recharge

Monday, 21 September 2020

One of covenants of the Sun Radio Foundation’s mission is preserving the heritage of Texas music. In observance of this commitment, the foundation embarked on the Sun Radio Recharge COVID-19 relief grant program in May and since has helped pay over 220 musicians’ utility bills.

We’ve decided to take knee on the Recharge program to make room for other mission driven initiatives such as the Sun Radio Side Hustle.

This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see ya later. Stay tune for more Recharge updates!

Recharged, Recapped

Starting with an initial funding of $20,000, the Sun Radio Foundation embarked on the Sun Radio Recharge COVID-19 relief program to support Central Texas musicians and community radio stations nationwide by extending grants towards defraying the costs of electricity bills. Since it’s conception in May, the foundation has raised over $230,000 towards this program.

Central Texas Musician Impact:

To-date, the Sun Radio Recharge for Central Texas Musicians has granted over 220 Central Texas musicians (and counting) in grants. Through the Recharge program, Sun Radio supports the local artists that play each Wednesday on Texas Radio Live at Guero’s Taco Bar.

  Community Radio Stations Impact:

To-date, the foundation gifted five radio stations nationwide – 104.9 KAPY Dival, Wash., 97.1 KOOP Austin, Texas, 96.9 KYBU Round Valley, Calif., 89.3 KNON Fort Worth, Texas, 97.9 WVET Ft. McCoy, Fla. – through the Recharge program for community radio stations.

The Sun Radio Foundation is beyond humbled by the outpour of love and support from our dedicated listeners. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to pour that love back in to those who contribute so much to the fabric of our communities.
