Marcus Mumford Sings “You’ll Never Walk Alone”

Thursday, 09 April 2020

Marcus Mumford, of the band Mumford & Sons, has just posted a beautiful new performance of the classic song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” It’s just Marcus singing at home accompanied by Reuben James at his home on piano. The song has rapidly become the world-wide anthem to show support for and encouragement to medical staff, first responders, those impacted by, under restrictions or in quarantine because of the coronavirus pandemic. The song has an interesting history. It comes from a 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “Carousel.” The Liverpool band Gerry & the Pacemakers had a hit with it in 1963 and it became the official song for the Liverpool FC Premiere League football (soccer) team. It is now sung at football (soccer) matches around the world and has been performed by everyone from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley to Jerry Lewis at the end of every Labor Day telethon. Proceeds from the Marcus Mumford performance benefit the Grenfell Foundation and War Child UK.
